On November 20 at 12:00, a talk will take place at La Bonne - Centre de Cultura de Dones Francesca Bonnemaison with the presence of the artist, Alterdúo and Tija Wige.
The project 'Carne de mi carne: Entraña' by artist María Alcaide is part of the delocalized itinerary 1+1+1..., that will unfold throughout different venues in the Gothic and El Born neighborhoods from November 9th to 21st.

Artist María Alcaide (Aracena, Andalusia, 1992) is not simply discussing flesh: she is telling us about her very own flesh, her own experience, her past, present and future.

Throughout the video narration Carne de mi carne: Entraña (2021), the artist processes and digests the symbols and images of the context in which she was born and raised, and, through this narrative, she cuts and assembles her closest ties. Her relationship with her brother, parents and family overlap with a broader research on feminism, the rural world and gender inequality.

When we speak of flesh we speak of the body and, inevitably, of our experiences. To refer to personal experience is to refer to our environment and to the genetic framework that links us to each other.

On Saturday, November 20, at 12 a.m., La Bonne – Centre de Cultura de Dones Francesca Bonnemaison will host the project’s presentation. The artist María Alcaide, the Wige Tija and the curatorial couple Alterdúo (Marco Tondello and Arianna Esposito) will talk about body, gender inequality and the transformations that the rural world is currently experiencing. Everyone will address these issues from their own experience, providing their personal views, with the aim of engaging in a dialogue that will gather different voices.

Produced within the framework of ”la Caixa” Foundation’s programme to support artists.

María Alcaide

María Alcaide is a visual artist working with installations, film, and text, exploring alternative methodologies and non-conventional references. Her work is deeply rooted in her personal experiences and physical and economic limitations, using performativity as a tool to uncover social, economic, and political fictions. She combines epic narratives with recycled materials like textiles and plastics, transforming everyday objects and creating unexpected connections between the personal and the political. Alcaide encourages viewers to reflect on their social positioning.

She holds a Fine Arts degree from the University of Seville, studied at Université Paris VIII, and completed a Master’s in Research in Art and Design at Eina-UAB. Her research has been presented at institutions such as EHESS (Paris), Universität Der Künste (Berlin), and MACBA (Barcelona). Internationally, she has exhibited at venues like the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin, Frankfurter Kunstverein, IMAI in Düsseldorf, and Reed College in San Francisco. Alcaide has received awards such as Generación 2021, the LaCaixa production grant, Jeune Création, and the Salon de Montrouge in Paris. Recently, she won the Barcelona Producció award and worked on a contemporary art and ruralities project at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Alterdúo – Arianna Esposito & Marco Tondello

Alterdúo is a curation project conceived by Arianna Esposito and Marco Tondello. Their projects and research are born from challenging current realities, with a special focus on emergent and marginal realities, in order to build networks and intersubjective spaces between culture and the community.
They share an interest towards modern and digital art practices, and their work is built upon two main guidelines: dialogue and processes. Dialogue is used as a device that provides care and a drive towards collaborative and non-hegemonic experiences, whereas processes, as constant actions, provide a starting point for other possible beginnings.
As a duo, they have curated the #internetflags exhibition by Irma Marco at the Espai Souvenir gallery, they have collaborated with L’Estruch, from Sabadell, in Dissonants, series of events on performance and technology, and they are currently resident curators at the Centro Espronceda in Barcelona as part of the 2021 Curation program.
