2023 has been the breakout year of AI, a year where we have experienced an explosive growth of generative AI tools. This tools are accesible for all the creatives and professionals, and present a new way of working. In the meeting, we will examine the ethical considerations and challenges in the use of artificial intelligence in creative processes, curating, art education and application processes. What is the role of AI in the creation process?

Merlina Rañi

Merlina Rañi is an independent curator trained in praxis and self-taught studies that combine the fields of aesthetics, art theory, philosophy and scientific dissemination. Her latest productions focus on the implications of technological abstraction in the political and affective aspect of society; around axes such as virtuality, language, complexity and Machine Learning. In 2014, she was selected by the Young Curators program of Fundación PROA. She participated as co-curator in the electronic art festival +CODE (2016-2018) and is currently associate curator at Espacio Pla (from 2015 to present). Her texts were published in Artishock (Chile), SuperRare (USA), and in the books Artificially Intelligent (V&A, UK), and 10 años de Espacio Contemporáneo (PROA, Argentina).

He forms part of the team of the Mòniques mediation research programme at the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica in the speciality of digital art, developing prototypes to democratize AI and proposing uses of technology in the arts. Elena Alekseeva (b.1993) is a manager of cultural projects within the events industry. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the Higher School of Economics (Moscow) and a Master’s Degree in Management of Cultural Projects at the IL3–University of Barcelona. She has international experience working in events production, including festivals, art fairs, concerts, and gala events. Her expertise extends to crafting innovative proposals, managing sponsorship activations, and providing crucial communication support.
Currently, Elena leads Communications at OFFF, a global creative platform that shapes the future of design, art, and post-digital culture. OFFF is the driving force behind the renowned OFFF Barcelona, the world’s biggest festival of creativity, design, and digital art, which will mark its 23rd edition on April 4–6, 2024, at Disseny Hub Barcelona. Previously, Elena has collaborated with cultural and artistic projects, such as the international fair of contemporary art Cosmoscow, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Barcelona Gallery Weekend, the Architecture Festival 48H Open House, the alternative music Festival•B, among others.

Bani Brusadin

Bani Brusadin is a curator, educator and researcher interested in the possible feedback loops between art, digital cultures, planetary-scale technologies and their politics. He currently collaborates with Medialab Matadero (Madrid) and Fundación Foto Colectania (Barcelona). He was one of the guest curators for the 2023 edition of the renowned Berlin-based festival of art and digital cultures transmediale. In the past he founded and co-curated The Influencers, a festival about experimental art, design and activist practices in the networked society, co-produced by the CCCB Barcelona (2004 – 2019). He holds a PhD in Advanced Artistic Practices (University of Barcelona) and teaches in BA and master degree programs at Elisava, the University of Barcelona, and Esdi. He is the author of the essay The Fog of Systems, published by Aksioma Institute for Contemporary Art Ljubljana (2021).

Marion Balac is an artist, educator and researcher interested in the tensions operating between digital cultures, online territories, transmission dynamics and technology. Observing and using the resources offered by the internet, she lingers on these dynamic playgrounds to bring out their incongruities, divert their uses towards poetic ends or social experiments and elaborate new fictions, in or out of the screen.
Her work has been included in exhibitions and screenings at: Thaddaeus Ropac gallery (Paris Pantin) for Jeune Création, Fabra i Coats – Centre d’Art Contemporani (Barcelona), le Confort Moderne (Poitiers), le Bel Ordinaire (Pau), LOOP Barcelona, Cankarjev Dom (Ljubljana), Annka Kultys Gallery (London), Galerie Manqué (New York), Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), Enclave Projects (London), Paradise Works (Manchester), Bandits-Mages (Bourges), Espace des Blancs-Manteaux (Paris), l’Abbaye (Annecy-le-Vieux), Galerie Neuf (Nancy), Hectoliter Gallery (Brussels), Musée Saint-Raymond (Toulouse)… She has had the opportunity to develop her work in residencies like Espositivo and Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, Salón Bellefour in Buenos Aires or Hangar in Barcelona.
She teaches in Beaux-Arts de Marseille – INSEAMM since 2021.
