Are institutions programming of performances and video art? This round table will center its discussion on the ways institutions either facilitate or constrain video and performance art, analyzing their roles in fostering these artistic practices and innovation within institutional frameworks. The objective of this meeting is to have a dialogue between different professionals views to navigate the landscape of institutional involvement in the programming of performance and video art. Can these practices help the institution grow?

Alfredo Llopico

Alfredo Llopico (Onda, Castellón, 1969) holds a PhD in Art History from the University of Valencia. He has been in charge of cultural activities at the Fundación Caja Castellón since 2002. He is also a member of the scientific councils of the Consorcio de Museos de la Comunitat Valenciana and collaborates in contemporary art committees of the Ayuntamiento de Castelló, the Diputación de Castellón, the Universitat Jaume I de Castellón and the GlogauAIR Art Residency Berlin.

He has developed research stays, in addition to developing modern and contemporary art projects, in Germany (Berlin), France (Paris, Bayonne), United States (New York), Italy (Palermo, Rome, Venice and Urbino) and Bulgaria (Sofia), within the framework of the artistic internationalization line developed by the Fundación Caja Castellón since 2020.

As for the artistic action in the city of Castellón, it is centered in the Sala Sant Miquel of the Fundació Caixa Castelló, a multidisciplinary cultural space dedicated to exploring the major themes of contemporary creation, linked to the territory, through different languages and formats, with a program that includes thematic exhibitions, lecture series, performance, dance or theater, as well as literary meetings or audiovisual projections.

Arash Fayez

Arash Fayez is an artist based between Madrid and Barcelona. He has a bachelor in architecture from the university of Soureh (Tehran, Iran) and a Masters in Fine Arts from California College the Arts (San Francisco, United States). Fayez’s practice investigates the condition of displacement in relation to desire where he researches notions such as statelessness, limbo, and in-betweenness. Spanning writing, performance, and video, his projects explore the condition of a mind in limbo as a result of the body in between; or, in other words, the mental and physical states of being in limbo as a result of being between two locations, two cultures, or two identities. His practice looks at the segment that separates these two phenomena and aim its audience to neither one place nor another but to what can be found in between.

His work is primarily based on autobiographical experiences interlaced with fictional and nonfictional content. By employing storytelling strategies, he combines fiction and documentary to construct an emotional landscape that resonates with the in-between. Fayez has presented his projects at venues such as Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York); Musée du quai Branly (Paris); the British Museum (London); the Wattis Institute (San Francisco); Asian Art Museum (San Francisco); Württembergischer Kunstverein (Stuttgart); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA); Cineteca Matadero (Madrid); and La Virreina Centro de la Imagen (Barcelona). He is currently a fellow artist at the Académie de France (Casa de Velázquez) to develop his new film “A Game of Chess” and a publication “Apolis”.
