AIR programs are a rather particular context for artistic reflexion and production. Different lengths of short laps of time ranging from weeks to months are terrain for exchange of ideas and cultural shifts. The discussion will revolve on how in that framework moving image can help being an effective vehicle for the contemporary both in content and format.

Ane Rodríguez Armendáriz

Ane Rodríguez Armendariz has worked in the field of cultural management in different Spanish institutions in the last 15 years. She was the cultural director of Tabakalera from 2012 to 2019. During this time, she led the configuration of the opening of the center and the implementation of the cultural project that included a programme based in contemporary art and visual cultures, with exhibitions, residencies, public programmes, mediation, and a cinema programme, amongst others. Throughout those years she worked with artists such as Maryam Jafri, Yto Barrada, Eric Baudelaire, Itziar Okariz, Adrià Julià, Jumana Manna, Uriel Orlow and Filipa César among others, working in a network with different international partners and paying special attention to educational programmes and the configuration of the institutions as a space of learning and community building.

Her experience in Spanish art institutions includes the contemporary art fair in Madrid, ARCO (2006-2010), where she was in charge of curated programmes and international galleries; MUSAC, the contemporary art museum of Castilla y León, where she was general coordinator and management assistant (2010-2011), and Matadero Madrid, as part of the programming team (2011-2012).

Trained as a journalist, she soon joined artistic management after her experience in London in several galleries and after having studied several postgraduate degrees in film and art. Back in Spain in 2004, she was part of the Manifesta 5 biennial team in San Sebastian. She has also collaborated in the San Sebastian Film Festival in several editions.

She is currently pursuing a postgraduate programme at Goldsmiths College in London.

Katia Roessel

Moderator, Participant
Katia Roessel

Katia Roessel is currently developing her first feature film in France. Her work has been shown in festivals, galleries, collective projects and open-air events such as POINT IN THE ENDLESS UNIVERSE, Moscow (2014), Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre, Paris (2011), AVIFF Cannes (2014), OCAT Shanghai (2014), Collection VIDEO SALON, Galerija Duplex 100m2, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (2016), and PARISARTISTES # (2017) among others. Her GLEE video series focuses on the fundamental technology of artificial light and the evolving dominance of screen-based light and its implications. Natural light, screen light, and filmed light intertwine. Since within the installations different temporalities emerge and shun into another frame/art scale – the light of the screen has brought us ever more realistic simulations, including simulations of intelligence and of life, and draws us into its reality. This reality and natural reality are in an escalating competition for our “hearts and minds.”

Veronica Valentini

Veronica Valentini is a curator, educator, and researcher based in Barcelona. Her practice addresses subjects and methodologies related to the creation of the public sphere and the production of social knowledge through informal, distributed and situated exchange between art and society. She is the founding director of E.M.M.A. and co-founding director of the BAR project, two self-run curatorial organizations that she considers as tools for thought, imagination, and action. As mediator for the Concomitentes, art citizen project supported in Spain by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation (Madrid), she is working with functional diversity activists on the Diversorium, a communal space in which to come together and celebrate: to “dance with” the various affective, invisibilized communities in the city and “move” the discriminations that separate us.
