First Impressions is a video projection of six different people video-projected into three-dimensional French decorative miniature chair. The video projections wrap around the chair, while also projecting on a silk fabric screen that shows an assortment of everyday people and the variety of their body language. The video consists of a 5-minute loop. It turns through each of the characters and then returns randomly to mix the characters and the positions. The piece was inspired by the cubes that Artist, Francis Bacon painted around his sitting figures. The strength and power that they possessed in the chairs melted into a staged setting. In addition, the piece is inspired by the “peep hole” used by artist, Marcel Duchamp. The chair itself is a hand-made and painted, wrapped as a sculpture in silk, and comes from the bookstore at the J.Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
