Film 16mm, color, sound
The ten-minute film resembles a mentally accessible fabric installation: the endless sequences of differently patterned fabrics of various textures – monochrome surfaces in dark or dazzlingly bright colours, alternating with graphic and floral patterns, figuration, landscape and embroidery.
The textiles shown belong to historical skirts and dresses from the artist’s collection. They are reminiscent of curtains that open alternately to the left and right without visible intervention, revealing a view of another curtain behind.
The temporal levels of the experienced histories of each individual piece of clothing, but also the overwritings through today’s wearing, play a central role in this film.
Parallel to the moving image, letters sung by the artist can be heard, among others, which refer to the last verses of the poem “”Gespräch mit einem Stein”” (Conversation with a Stone )(1962) by the Polish poet Wisława Szymborska.”
