In Between Homes follows Florian Braakman as he accompanies immigrated neighbours from Delfshaven, Rotterdam, on journeys back to their countries of origin: Curaçao, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Surinam. Through photo-films sequences of photographs paired with sound the neighbours share memories of migration, revealing the shared experience of living between worlds, longing for home, and navigating cultural and socio-political landscapes.
Braakman meets his subjects spontaneously in markets, cafés, and streets ― and collaborates closely with them in the studio, discussing their representation and perspective. The project emphasizes that integration is not assimilation but a meeting of cultures, a reciprocal process of living together. In Between Homes makes visible the connections that bind communities across borders, showing that despite differences in background, we are part of each other’s lives.

Florian Braakman (b. 1988) lives and works in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He holds a BA in Photography from the Royal Academy of Arts (KABK) The Hague, NL (2013). His work has been exhibited at Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam, NL (2025/2022), BRUTUS Rotterdam, NL (2025), Foam Museum, Amsterdam NL (2024), Jakarta International Photo Festival, ID (2023), Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, NL (2023), Museum IJsselstein, NL (2022), a.o. He was selected as one of the twenty artists for Foam Talent 2024-2025. Florian is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

JOEY RAMONE was founded in 2012 by Greek artist Kiki Petratou & Dutch collector Hans Bakker. The gallery, which we like to call an ‘Half Artist-Run Gallery’, is committed to developing an ambitious and vibrant multidisciplinary and cross-generational program. It has been presenting national and international artists who use a diverse range of media to explore contemporary socio-political, cultural and technological themes.
In 2016 the gallery stepped into a new phase by doubling its space. This not only instigated the interaction between the artists, galleries and our public but it also created new exhibition and collaborative formats. Next to the regular gallery program comprising six solo exhibitions a year, the gallery has been running an irregular side program, which includes curated group shows, artist talks, lectures, film screenings, performances and project collaboration. The objective is to provide a platform for contemporary art and discourse, by combining the attributes of both a conventional gallery (facilitating the long-term development of the artists’ careers) and the more content and context-based approach of a non-profit initiative.
