Four channel video installation
The work depicts a modern version of the ancient tribal ritual which is to train young adults to become members of their community. The symbolic processes shown in the video refer to how individuals create a social mask that represents their function and role in society by building new social connections and letting old ones go. Recalling the visual tradition of a mask, as well as the references to social distance and handshake theories, combine ancient and current practices that humans use to organise their lives.
