This Side of Paradise is a set of theatrical pictures that delineate a fragile and vulnerable mental space, where figures trapped in timeless time, between what already took place and what is yet to come.

This Side of Paradise is composed of multiple scenes. Each scene is a distinct video work, showing an intimate ‘solo’ appearance by an actor or actress, a dancer, or just “regular” people. Many of whom I have worked with before: dancer Talia Paz and actor Yehezkel Lazarov from Israel & dancers from Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater in Wuppertal, Germany.
The scenes are edited, played and synchronized as a dynamic interaction on multiple screens. Yanor choose to direct each scene using key words and phrases, constructing an intimate space in which these words are expanded into a complex language of images, sound and movement. Yanor aims to intensify various sensations, manifested in human behaviors and relationships: tenderness, beauty, hardship, endurance, obsession, pain, perseverance, stubbornness, laughter, and humorous relief. Viewers who will flow along the video screens may recognize something of themselves as well as discover new possibilities.
This work is a site-specific project that should be installed according to a specific space.
The intimate ‘solos’ seen in the video pieces manifest and play on the viewers’ credulity and willingness to suspend disbelief, reminding them that the true content is not always visible.
At the end of the day, the work can only be fully realized in our imagination.
