"Tutorial" is a best-of compilation from my mom's hard drive, which had to undergo an adequate selection process of pictures of pets and natural disasters.
“I am Vendula and I belong to the folder Big Kids. My role is a siblings’ icon and a black sheep. But most of all I am an independent observer who remixes the final collection with situational shots. I have got 3 sisters and 3 brothers and we all live in solitary house in countryside. We don’t have a Tesco club card and Coca-Cola is only bought on medical prescription. I don’t like waiting, deep water, motivational book, rhubarb, chatter about cooking and my legs. But I like outsiders, raffaelo, people who awake early, smell of spring, candy crash game, song Amanita from Animal collective and freedom.”
Vendula Knopová
Vendula Knopová is photographer, currently based in Prague, Czech Republic. She has studied at the Departement of Advertising Photography at Tomáš Baťa University (Zlín, Czech Republic). In 2016 she was awarded by Grand Prix de Jury at the International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères. Moreover, in 2015 she received Arte Creative Award (Portfolio Review Düsseldorf) and Grand Prix at Poznań Photo Diploma Awards, as well as in 2013 ON Award at OFF Festival in Bratislava. Her work was presented at several exhibitions in the Czech Republic, Italy ( Prada Foundation), Switzerland and abroad.

When the Gandy Gallery took root in Prague in 1992, shortly after the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe, the stranglehold on local creation had only just been loosened. In order to mitigate the effects of this long break with the West, the first exhibitions were devoted to artists such as Nan Goldin, Jonas Mekas, Joseph Grigely, Matali Crasset, Douglas Gordon … and also by introducing the Czech artists Vaclav Stratil and Jiri David.
The gallery moved to Bratislava in 2005, whose central geography gives it a position at the crossroads of cultures.
Currently, the gallery brings together some thirty artists, mostly from former Soviet countries (Zbyněk Baladrán, Oto Hudec, Alva Hajn, Ilija Šoškić, Jana Želibská…) whose work addresses issues related to identity, memory, the body, migration, and archive work. The gallery fosters ongoing research, discoveries, experimentations and carefully constructed relationships in a tireless and passionate manner.
