The which side of the glass are we on? Are you looking or being looked at?

Valkoinen pupu (White Bunny) is Maija Tammi’s and Aapo Huhta’s collaborative video work raising questions about the human subject position. The work shows bodies, both human and animal, moving or being moved inside or with different machines. A slumbering visual rhythm, accompanied by an apprehensive musical component fading in and out, creates a space that seduces a viewer towards desolate contemplation about our own position in the existence.

Maija Tammi and Aapo Huhta

Maija Tammi (b. 1985) is a Finnish artist and Doctor of Arts, whose photographs and videos examine the liminal areas of disgust and fascination, science and aesthetics. She regularly collaborates with scientists and musicians. Tammi’s work has been exhibited in Paris, Berlin, Rome, London, New York, and Tokyo, and she has three published books Leftover/Removals (Kehrer Verlag, 2014), White Rabbit Fever (Bromide Books, 2017) and Sick Photography (Aalto Arts Books, 2017). Aapo Huhta (1985) is a Helsinki based photographer. He received an MA in photography from the Aalto University of Arts and Design, Helsinki Finland. Huhta combines elements of documentary practise with his own subjective observations, building a range of ambiguous and often fragmented narratives in his work. Exploring different forms of photographic essay, its methods and possibilities are playing a major role in his work. The exploration has culminated in two photobooks, Block (Kehrer Verlag, 2015) and Omatandangole (Kehrer Verlag, 2019).
