Through a series of roundtable discussions gathering together international art professionals, the LOOP Talks 2018 provided the space to debate and exchange ideas on contemporary modes of production or the cluster of acknowledged practices and concepts that form a context within which the moving image is used and circulated.
Forms of Collecting: The Evolution of the Practice in the Catalan Context
During this conversation moderated by Llucià Homs, Nimfa Bisbe, Cristina Lopez and Andreu Rodríguez illustrated the very diverse ‘forms of collecting’ that guide the institutions and organisations they lead, alle the while disclosing the importance of both establishing recognisable criteria for a collection, and acquiring artworks for public dissemination.
Director of MACBA Foundation, a private not for profit organisation with the specific mission to put together the MACBA Collection of MACBA. Degree in Business Administration, MBA (ESADE, Barcelona) and MA in Museum Management (UPF, Barcelona). After working 15 years as Head of Communication and Marketing in both multinational companies and public institutions, Cristina decided to focus on her passion: contemporary art. In 2013 she joined the MACBA Foundation as Communication and Fundraising Manager, and in 2016 she was appointed Director. During this time, the Foundation has seen a significant increasing in the number of private collaborators, multiplied the sponsorship initiatives and intensified its work of dissemination and promotion of the Collection.

Nimfa Bisbe holds a BA in Art History from the Universitat de Barcelona and a MA in Art History and Museum Studies from the University of Delaware (USA). In 1990 she started working at “la Caixa” Foundation as Chief Conservator of the Collection of Contemporary Art. In 2002 she was appointed director of the collections of the Obra Social “la Caixa”, featuring more than 9.000 works. Through the collection, she curated numerous exhibitions, as well as monographic artists’ projects across the different programs promoted by CaixaForum. She has held conferences and courses on art and collecting, and participated as in the jury of artwards and grant competitions, internationally. She is a member of ICOM (International Council of Museums), the governing board of IACCA (International Association of Corporate Collections of Contemporary Art) and the board of CIMAM (International Committee for Museums and Collection of Modern Art).

Andreu Rodríguez is a businessman in the IT retail sector, where he fostered the creation of renowned brands internationally, such as Beep, PCBox, and Outlet PC. Among other things, Rodríguez is also an art patron and producer. Along with his wife Marie-France Veyrat, a multidisciplinary artist, he has been passionately collecting art for years. In 2004, together they created the ARCO-BEEP award for Electronic Art, which gave way to other pivotal projects, such as the initiation of the renowned collection of Electronic Art, with the support of the New Art Foundation. Headed by Vicente Matallana, the collection is presided by Andreu and it was initiated thanks to the invaluable collaborations of institutional patrons of great importance. The collection has recently received a GACC Award to collecting, and has been invited to take part to different events internationally, such ARCO, Ars Electronica, the Frankfurt Biennale.

Llucià Homs is a cultural consultant, curator and art dealer. In 2011, he founded Talking Galleries and was director of its 1st edition (September 19–21). From 2011 to 2015, he was the Director of the Promotion of Cultural Industries at the Culture Institute of the Barcelona City Council (ICUB) and Director of La Virreina Centre de la Imatge. Homs studied law at the Barcelona University. In 1993, he opened his own gallery in Barcelona. Since 1999, the Llucià Homs gallery, made a firm commitment to young artists of different nationalities. He has been co-founder of the LOOP Festival in 2003, and managing partner of La Fàbrica Barcelona. On September 2016 he takes over as director of Talking Galleries. Every Sunday he publishes an article in the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia on current issues in the international art.
