Curator and Fair Director Aurélien Le Genissel presents us his selection of videos from LOOP Fair 2020 with an improvised virtual tour.
«I would like to insist in this presentation in other mechanisms that video artist can use to create narrative, fictions and, in fact, storytelling. We usually associate narration with literature and, in a way, a certain use of language inherited from myths, legends and built by written language.
I think there’s a different approach, a kind of grammar of the image that is closer to Eisenstein’s third meaning, Roland Barthes’ concept of obtus or Deleuze’s image-crystal, represented here -and it’s not a coincidence- by four women and the way they deconstruct the traditional masculine structures of power hidden on storytelling»

Aurélien Le Genissel es crítico de arte y comisario independiente afincado en Barcelona. Una de sus líneas de investigación actuales es la deconstrucción de la ficción mediante la persistencia del lenguaje literario y la gramática de la imagen en movimiento. También está explorando la interconexión entre la hermenéutica del arte visual y las formas contemporáneas de narrativa.
Fue Director Artístico de la Blueproject Foundation en Barcelona (entre el 2013 y el 2018), donde comisarió los solo shows de Wolfgang Laib, Pieter Vermeersch o José Dávila, entre otros, y las exposiciones colectivas Little Is Left to Tell: Calvino after Calvino, Idolatry -What sacred games shall we have to invent? o Passe / Impasse.
Es director de la feria de videoarte LOOP de Barcelona en 2019 y 2020, donde fue comisario de The Bee who Forgot the Honey (2019), una muestra colectiva con obras de David Claerbout, Jon Rafman, Michael Sailstorfer, Hans Op de Beeck o Guido van der Werve, entre otros, y de Tales From an Old World (2020).
Ha colaborado en varios catálogos, entre ellos Little Is Left to Tell: Calvino after Calvino (Blueproject Foundation, 2015) y a good Neighbor – Stories (Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, 2017), la publicación de la 15a Bienal de Estambul.
Colabora habitualmente con varias revistas como Neo2 (España), ArtPress France o Mousse Magazine (Italia)
