Christos Mavrodis (b.1995) lives and works in Netherlands. His artistic practice is a reflection of the complexities of modern life, where the lines between reality and fantasy are often blurred. Why Do You Scream So Quietly? is an anthology of short stories and video works that intertwine in a loose dialogue, an exploration of the absurdity of the world, inner thoughts, and personal surroundings. Rooted in plain reality yet drawn toward fantasy, the work seeks a form of escapism reminiscent of a child’s imagination. Caught between these realms, some scenes emerge through languag, like a conversation with a coffee machine where mundane interactions take on an almost sentient quality. Others, such as the beach sequences, depict surreal moments of solitude, where familiar gestures become
estranged from logic in a quiet search for meaning.
Filmed near the artist’s hometown in northern Greece, the work took shape over months, with editing becoming a form of writing where every cut, sound, and blur reshaped the narrative. Despite its fragmented nature, the film remains connected, each piece reflecting a restless mind in search of stillness.
