Wonders by Carles Congost was the winning proposal of the second edition of the Videocreation Prize promoted by LOOP Barcelona, the Xarxa de Centres d’Arts Visuals de Catalunya and Arts Santa Mònica. In this talk the artist introduced the work along with professor and writer Eloy Fernandez Porta.
Interdisciplinary Artist, Carles Congost graduated in Fine Arts from the Universidad de Barcelona, 1994. Carles Congost’s work combines different mediums and supports including video, music, drawing and photography. In his work there are constant references to the world of comics, consumer music, fantastic film and television culture. The decidedly low-tech character of his early work gradually disappeared moving into productions that stand out for their ever increasing technical complexity. He has exhibited in some of the most important art centres and galleries both nationally and internationally, such as MoMA, Palais de Tokyo, Fundación Miró, the MNAC Reina Sofía and the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin.
Eloy Fernandez Porta holds a PhD in Humanities from the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) and teaches Contemporary Art in the Hispanic and European Studies porgramme at the UPF and the Barcelona School of Management. He has published short stories, the Golpes anthology (with Vicente Muñoz Álvarez), and with the publishing house Anagram, Afterpop, Homo Sampler, € ® O $ (Anagram Prize) and Emociones Así (City of Barcelona Prize).
